What is NLP?
Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP) is a methodology which can help us to make highly effective and rapid changes to the way we perceive ourselves, our surroundings and how we think and respond to other people and events.
The Neuro element refers to our brains and our nervous systems, while Linguistic relates to language. The Programming element is exactly that: The programme we run in our minds and our models of the world.
What makes NLP Different?
Developed by Richard Bandler and John Grinder, NLP is heavily influenced by the work of the hypnotist Milton Erickson, Fritz Perls (known for Gestalt Therapy) and Virginia Satir (Family Therapy) who were seen as leaders in their fields.
What made NLP different to traditional therapy was its intention to be forward looking, rather than delving into the past and root causes of problems and issues.
By constructing new models (programmes), individuals can effectively change habits and behaviours for the better.
